Dana Fowler

Office of Planning and Performance Management Office (PPP) of the Secretary U.S. Department of the Interior
Dana Fowler began her career working for the State of Maryland analyzing emerging drug trends and developing educational materials for parents. Joining the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration (HHS-SAMHSA) where she led a weekly publication whose goal was to make government data more accessible through focused, plain English publications directed at a non-scientific audience. She soon transitioned to the policy and budget office where she worked with her budget counterparts to better integrate program performance data into budget submissions. She took her newly acquired skills and passion for stewardship across the country to Atlanta, GA when she accepted the role of Chief Performance Officer at the Centers for Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (HHS-CDC). During her time, she led a team of seven who ensured alignment of public performance reporting, grant announcements, evaluation plans, and internal performance management functions.

Returning to Washington, DC in 2015, Ms. Fowler became the Deputy Director of the cross-federal Performance Improvement Council (housed at GSA) where she worked with federal performance teams providing facilitation, training, and tools on a variety of topics from planning to performance measurement and performance management. Working at the intersection of government agencies has broadened her perspective on the federal enterprise. Most recently, looking to return to her ?roots,' she joined Interior's Office of Planning and Performance Management where she serves as the Associate Deputy Performance Improvement Officer and collaborates daily with the Chief Risk Officer and Deputy Evaluation Officer to establish a culture of evidence at Interior.
